Time to go home

Last moments in Mungindi, spent at the pub of course. Another of Rebel and Gemma's old school mates rocked up to say her hello's and goodbyes to Rebel before she takes off. Lauren and her children Nick and Saashi. We hung around for another couple of hours then it was time to hit the road.
Brilliant weekend, good work team Mungindi.

Ye Grand tour of Mungindi

Sunday was our last day in Mungindi so Rebel took us on a tour of town. It took us about 30 mins and saw us travelling from one edge of town (the cotton Gin and the airport in NSW) to the other,(one ton post and the entrance to NSW, in QLD). It was pretty flash, we drove down mission street - that's where the aboriginals live! Past the levy - that keeps the river from flooding the town, and into Aunty Gil's backyard so we could smell the roses. As usual we ended up at the pub for more drinks and another meal before it was time to head off.
Yes, another 5.5 hours on the road. Thanks Pops!

This is the town's main tourist attraction, the fencers hut. It is just next to (quite literally, like 5 metres) the One Ton Post - one of the original markers of the NSW QLD border.
And here it is... the post itself!
Rebels house is just over the border
Two cowgirls!
Someone actually lives in this place... noice eh!

Real country sheilas
Yeah, I wouldn't touch it either

Eating beer

Our first full day in Mungindi consisted of nothing more than sitting on the verandah eating beer, then moving on to the pub (just across the road) to eat more beer (it was Saturday, you don't eat on Saturday - you eat beer!). We went back and forth a few times, nothing too exciting to report.
But it was lovely to see the constant flow of people travelling to Mungindi to see rebel before she takes off for her o's adventure. The first night we had Damien and Kylie (with ella)(soon to be joining us in Brisbane!), Jeffrey and Kim (Jeffro and Kimmy!), and the locals. On Saturday Mark, Laurie (with Eddie) arrived for a couple of hours, followed by Jeneanne who made herself comfortable and hung out with us for the night.
Good times!

aaahhhhh, nothing like an afternoon kip.

and zoomed in to see it properly.

Mungindi - on the border of QLD and NSW at the end of the squiggle

We made it to Mungindi and went straight to the pub (spent most of the weekend getting to know the locals). Big thanks to Aunty Gil, Uncle Bill, Jimmy and Bugsy (is that correct? Did i forget anyone), If it wasn't for them we would have gone hungry and been nowhere near as blind as we were. Got to love the cheap twisters. Thanks guys!

Uncle Bill and Aunty Gil, thanks so much for the awesome hospitality. If it wasn't for you we would have starved... Thanks Rebel for the well stocked kitchen. Hehehe, seriously great hosts though (including Rebel).

Something very funny is happening, either that or gemma is checking my teeth for blackies.

On the road to Mungindi

Off we go to Mungindi, loaded with the appropriate amount of beers, a couple of cd's and pretty much nothing else. We had stop a few times along the way - mainly for aunty sharon and I who were nailing beers and therefore needing a lot of toilet stops - but also to view some of the scenery on the way. Wow, check out that cactus. Seriously though, the sunset was pretty good.

Pops and Gemma with one of the rotten cactus' (cacti?) alongside the road. They are seriously foul, covered in some kinda sap. Oh, and bugs... dead bugs all over them, and spikes as you would expect on a cactus. Foul
Princess joy with the cactus. Too posh to...
Thanks designated driver Grant. Reliable as always
Travel shot - totally not posing for the camera! hehe

Gemma and Grant... and a lot of wilderness. That sounds a little too country and western. Probably quite appropriate considering where we are headed
